A month from today, I’m taking another of those mini-vacations but this one has an additional purpose. I’ll be participating the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life with the City of Albany team. I’m planning to walk a marathon during the 18-hour event as I did last year: 105 laps around the track at West Albany High School.

I made a list last year and a new one this year of family, friends and co-workers who have survived cancer or died because of it. Last year’s list had 27 names and I walked a mile for 26 of them, one lap for the 27th. Some of the same names are on my 2009 marathon list, and some new ones have been added. Yesterday, I added Pat O’Neill….
